Music and travel have a tantalising relationship. These two go hand in hand like Brad and Angelina on the sets of Mr. and Mrs. Smith (who knew they’d get a divorce). Music is quite an addiction for most of us where it’s impossible to leave the house without an IPod or music providing device. Good music can quite easily transport you to your happy place, engulf you in its world and leave you spellbound wanting the sensation to never end. As a result, we’ve compiled a list of what we think make the perfect companions for a “feel good” travel journey. If nothing, these suggestions are guaranteed to awaken the inner free spirit in you and encourage you to pack those bags and head out.
Warning: Some of these are classic clichés but we just couldn’t help ourselves.
- Come away with me – Norah Jones
As the name suggest, this song allows you to feel the music through its powerful words and melody. It hits just the right spot, best enjoyed on a cold winter’s day.
- Good people – Jack Johnson
The perfect sing a long “feel good” track guaranteed to make you sing out aloud. Sorta makes you wonder where the good men/ people have gone?
- Sun is shining – Bob Marley
Oh we can totally picture ourselves lying on a beach, margarita in hand and happiness between our fingers enjoying the calm ocean before us. Bob Marley was a legendary musician and the love resonates in his music.
- Hey ( I Love you) – Michael Franti
It’s impossible to not be happy when this song comes up. It makes you run out in to the street and start dancing with everyone around you.
Note: Street dancing can be tried at readers own risk.
- Moves like Jagger – Maroon 5
Turn the volume up because you’re bound to go nutso as soon as this track hits the dance floor. Words of wisdom: Wear flats and a dress that doesn’t fly up when you’re showcasing those moves.
- Starlight – Muse
This song cuts deep within me for some strange reason. The words hit the right spot and allow you to feel vulnerable yet empowered at the same time.
Tip: Listen with earphones.
7. Budapest – George Ezra
This favorite makes for a great listen when in Budapest (DUH) or when you’re in your car driving from one European border to the other crossing the glorious countryside. This young man has a beautiful deep voice that soothes the ears and mind.
- Adventure of a lifetime – Coldplay
This happy hit has a simple meaning to it. It urges you to never stop dreaming but to reach out and grab the magic. The magic here is referred to a new adventurous love and we’ve found our love in the form of travel.
- Heroes – Alesso
This song has the potential to make you feel on top of the world. It empowers you to be your best self, a hero able to conquer the challenges often faced by us. “Everyday people do everyday thing, but I can’t be one of them”. Great background music for when you’re breaking the news to your parents of your month long travels to God knows where.
- Are you with me – Lost frequencies.
Basic lyrics, but the track always gets me in high spirits. It’s probably about a man that fell in love with a girl in Mexico but who cares we love Mexico! Are you with me?
- Standing on the shore – Empire of the sun
These guys are insanely creative with their songs and videos. It’s also unclear as to what these dudes are singing about but the music is catchy and makes you want to sing along.
- Changes – Faul & Wad Ad vs. Pnau
This is our summer anthem! The childish “Baby I don’t know, just why I love you so” chant gets stuck in your head along with the piano and sax that begins soon after. The music is harmonious with a new age lift. Tip: You’re gonna hit repeat on this one.
- Walking on a dream – Empire of the Sun
“We are always running for the thrill of it thrill of it. Always pushing up the hill searching for the thrill of it. On and on and on we are calling out and out again. Never looking down I’m just in awe of what’s in front of me”. This song screams happiness making you a dreamer and believer in all kinds of things.
- Firestone – Kygo
Kygo has the gift of producing mesmerizing tunes such as this one. The piano chords are melodious while the lyrics are powerful enough to touch your soul. Tip: We’ve made this our sunset song.
- Pocket full of sunshine – Natasha Bedingfield.
I mean, C’mon she talks about a pocket full of sunshine and to take her away to a brighter day. What more can we say!
We’ll keep you updated on more; meanwhile tell us which songs make the best travel companions for you?
“Gonna travel, gonna travel wild and free, I’m gonna pack my bags because this great big world is calling me” – Elvis Presley, Harem Holiday.
