The Isle of Capri – How to spend your summer like a boss

The search for my heaven is over. The waters are clearer than a crystal ball and the cliffs jagged and daunting, while the marina is filled with little boats bobbing in the calm waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Welcome to the drop dead gorgeous Isle of Capri. Located just off the shoreline of Naples on the Amalfi coast where quaint island streets smell like jasmine and orange blossoms. Popular among the rich and famous, the isle can be your slice of heaven too.

Below you’ll find top of the line bait—enough to lure you in for a summer adventure at this island haven.

  1. Para para paradise:

Whether a beach person or a simple one with flamboyant tastes, Capri will certainly float your boat. This place is ridiculously good-looking with picture perfect cafés lining the cobbled streets or fancy pants resorts that offer unparalleled views of the island. Not your typical island, Capri only has two beaches, both are pebbled — this doesn’t deter swimmers from diving straight into the sapphire waters to cool off.

  1. The island of looove:

Capri is famous for being one of the most romantic islands in the world. True story, the island emits this fragrance of love where everyone around you is cheerfully sipping on coffee, local wines and fruity cocktails. Take a walk along the island’s medieval pathways up to the stunning viewpoints from where you can fall in love with the beauty before you. Capri has an old-world meets the new-age world of exploration & vibrancy thing going on that can serenade you in a matter of minutes.

  1. Best gelato in Italy:

I’m just going to put it out there; the best Gelato I’ve eaten was hands down in Capri. Spoilt for choice, as you walk along the streets you’ll be tempted by the numerous gelato parlours the island has to offer. After testing out a few (by a few I mean 6-8), I found my true love at a tiny little Gelateria which became my go-to ice cream place post every meal; getting me a free scoop given the number of times I visited!

 Take a boat tour:

If you’re crunched for time but want to explore the island, take a boat tour. You can find boat companies who are more than happy to take you to the Blue Grotto (underwater cave) including the full circle tour where you sail through the dramatic Faraglioni rock formations, a spectacular sight that will leave you captivated by the rugged beauty of the island. Boat companies run varied tours for every budget which will make you want to explore further.

  1. Island shopping because you gotta take back souvenirs:

Capri boasts some great shopping enough to cut a deep hole in those pockets. While you don’t have to go all confessions of a shopaholic here, it is recommended to stroll leisurely, allowing you to window shop and perhaps pick up a few souvenirs along the way. Anacapris Piazza Vittoria is lined with shops selling exclusive scarves, jewellery, locally made perfumes, lemon products (take back a limoncello) and custom-made sandals, an island specialty.

  1. It’s all about the view & sunset:

From Anacapri, you can take the chairlift up to the peak of Mount Solaro which promises breathtaking views of the island and afar. It’s impossible to find a spot in Capri from where you won’t be able to witness something spectacular whether it’s from a cliff-top or a busy street in the city square so take some time out to soak in the natural beauty that surrounds you. If you manage to find the time, head to the Punta Carena lighthouse for a view of the sun descending in to the calm waters of the Mediterranean.

  1. Fancy-up for the Piazzetta:

Once you’ve successfully taken in all of the island, its best to head to the Piazza Umberto 1, the most famous square on the isle. Commonly known as the Piazzetta, this square is where tourists and merry-makers sip their drinks and dine in style hoping to rub shoulders with the rich and famous. As you walk along the streets, you will be enticed by the Italian live band playing in the distance and the scent of fresh ingredients being cooked in the many restaurants offering wholesome meals. Pair your traditional Ravioli Capresi with a local wine and kick back and allow your stomach to go on its own little vacation.
